In-House Diagnostics

Pet Blood Tests & Pathology Lab — Same-Visit Results in Pimple Nilakh

No referrals. No waiting days for results. Our in-house laboratory processes blood panels, urinalysis, and cytology on-site — so treatment starts the same day.

Why an In-House Lab Changes Everything

Most veterinary clinics in Pune send samples to external labs and wait 24–48 hours for results. At Shivraj Pet Clinic & Lab in Pimple Nilakh, our fully-equipped in-house pathology laboratory processes the majority of routine tests within the same visit. This means Dr. Pritesh can see your pet's results, adjust the diagnosis, and begin treatment — all before you leave the clinic.

For sick or emergency patients, this speed is critical. A dog in suspected tick fever, a rabbit with suspected organ failure, a bird with an unclear diagnosis — in each case, waiting a day for lab results can be the difference between full recovery and a critical decline.

Tests Available In-House

Complete Blood Count (CBC)

Measures red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. Essential for detecting anaemia, infection, inflammation, clotting problems, and bone marrow disorders.

Biochemistry Profile

Assesses organ function through blood chemistry markers:

  • Liver enzymes (ALT, AST, ALP) — detect liver inflammation, damage, toxin exposure
  • Kidney values (BUN, Creatinine) — essential for detecting chronic kidney disease early
  • Blood glucose — diagnoses diabetes mellitus in dogs and cats
  • Protein levels (Albumin, Total Protein) — assess nutrition and organ function
  • Electrolytes (Sodium, Potassium, Chloride) — critical in vomiting, diarrhea, Addison's disease

Urinalysis

Urine analysis reveals kidney function, urinary tract infections, bladder crystals/stones, diabetes, and early kidney disease — often before blood values change. We examine urine dipstick, specific gravity, sediment under microscope.

Microscopy & Cytology

  • Skin scraping — detects mange mites (Demodex, Sarcoptes), ringworm
  • Ear cytology — identifies yeast, bacteria causing ear infections
  • Fine needle aspirate (FNA) — evaluates lumps and masses without surgery
  • Vaginal cytology — determines heat cycle stage in breeding animals
  • Fecal microscopy & examination — identifies intestinal parasites, Giardia, Coccidia

Parasite & Infectious Disease Screening

  • Tick fever testing — Ehrlichia, Babesia, Anaplasma rapid tests
  • PCR Testing — for accurate detection of infectious diseases
  • Fecal float and direct smear for intestinal parasites
  • Blood smear for blood parasites

Specialised Tests

  • Bird Feather DNA Testing
  • Pre-anaesthetic bloodwork for surgery safety
🔬 Pre-anaesthetic screening: Before any surgery, we run bloodwork to assess liver, kidney, and clotting function. This is not optional — it's what makes anaesthesia safe, especially for senior pets and exotic animals.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do blood test results take?
CBC and biochemistry reports are generally available within 15–20 minutes in most routine cases at our in-house lab. We aim to have results ready before you leave the clinic.
Does my healthy pet need blood tests?
Yes — annual wellness bloodwork for pets over 7 years, and before any surgery regardless of age. Many conditions (kidney disease, diabetes, liver disease) show no symptoms until advanced. Early detection changes outcomes dramatically.
Do you send any tests to external labs?
Histopathology (tissue biopsy) and some specialized culture tests go to external labs. We'll tell you upfront which tests need to go out and what the turnaround time is.
My pet needs surgery — why does it need blood tests first?
Pre-anaesthetic blood panels reveal hidden kidney or liver problems that affect how the body processes anaesthetic drugs. A pet that appears healthy can still have borderline organ function that requires us to adjust our protocol for safety.
Can you test for tick fever?
Yes — we have rapid in-house tests for the most common tick-borne diseases in Pune (Ehrlichiosis, Babesiosis, Anaplasmosis). Results in 15–20 minutes.
